Unwelcome Change

Encaustic mixed media on panel

11 x 9 x ?? inches
I chose this image because as a layperson, this slide seems innocuous and beautiful. It belies the devastation that the atrophy of the skeletal muscle will bring. The image shows the contrast between healthy and affected muscle. It is also the invisible biology that is made visible through the muscle cramping, twitching and atrophy that is one of the first symptoms of ALS.
