The Reach Beyond Limits - SOLD!

Susan Sarver

Encaustic, pigment stick, pencil, moss, pit lime & burlap on panel
Inspired by photo #2

8 x 8 x 1.5 inches

The nerve and spinal cord represented in Image #2 inspired The Reach Beyond Limits. This piece is the most complex of the three paintings with its layers of media, including vintage burlap topped with pit lime for a fresco effect and a rubbing of fresh moss for a hint of green in the background. A crack in the vase is suggested, adding to the overall embrace of age and imperfection.

The piece is intended to echo the complexity of the central and peripheral nervous systems. While the nervous system is physically contained within the confines of the body and may be damaged by disease, human interaction can transcend such constraints and endure as beautiful and cherished memories.
